Just how long did you think this would take?

After having a baby 12 days ago, I am already thinking about my “plan on attack” for getting rid of the pregnancy pounds. With both pregnancies, I gained 35 pounds, which isn’t horrible, but a bit more than I had hoped. Eventually (9 months to be exact), I finally arrived at my pre-baby weight after having Jackson.

Call me impatient, but that’s just not what I have in mind this time around. My mom (the raw foodie) arrived today and will be staying with us for a couple weeks. She will make Superfood Smoothies, green juice drinks and exotic raw dishes, so I know she will help me to get “back on track.” But after she leaves, I wonder if I need to go on a diet to shed the rest? (Please know that I am aware that a breastfeeding mama needs extra calories, I am looking for something that will help me to make better food choices.)

Where am I now?

I want to lose 25 pounds. The first 20 are from pregnancy and the last 5 would put me into my favorite size.

Diet Options…

My husband suggests the Primal Blueprint, which is a good/but not perfect match for me.

My mom and sisters choose the Raw Food plan.

Several of my friends have experienced success with post-pregnancy weight loss on Weight Watchers.

I’ve never been a great dieter, so we’ll see where this shakes out. Do you have a program or diet that you really like? Share! I’d love to hear more about it!

My first “diet” around 4 weeks postpartum, when the weight stopped falling off, was to stop eating desserts three times a day! All that nursing made me crave sugar like I never had. So I lost some more weight and then stalled, and started walking a couple times a week and again the weight came off. Then I tried joining my husband on the primal blueprint diet but after a couple days realized it was the reason I didn’t have enough milk for my baby and I was starving all the time, so that was the end of that.
I reached a happy medium of serving him primal food and eating that way for dinner, but having carbs too. So lots more veggies and more meat than I was use to, but not cutting out all carbs.
I gained 46 lbs, which shocked me, but made some sense. I had run a half marathon right before getting pregnant (and trained for it for 6 mos) and needed more bodyfat! I had lost it all by 6 mos and am not actually down 8 lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight. All of that due to sort of careful eating, and exercising (been running and swimming lately). Well that and a very fast growing hungry baby. Good luck, and most of all, be patient with yourself! It’s a huge stress on your body to have a baby and takes awhile to normalize.
