The best laid plans…

Tonight I was supposed to be sitting in my hotel room in Myrtle Beach listening to the waves crash outside my hotel room. Only after I enjoyed a few hours of childcare and a massage!! However, Jackson has a virus, and we are at home instead.

After Jackson went to sleep, I watched the movie “Valentine’s Day” against my rule prohibiting romantic comedies while my husband is deployed. There is no need to layer on the emotion, friends…I’ve got plenty of that on my own!! But, it looked cute and funny, so I couldn’t refuse the temptation.

I wasn’t sad, ya’ll. It was entertaining, amusing…until the very end when the Army Captain (played by Julia Roberts) travels 14 hours to visit her son for one day. When she wakes him up to surprise him, I burst into tears. It made me sad for my husband. It made me sad for all the memories and events he hasn’t witnessed the past few months.

Just at that moment, Jackson woke up and began coughing. I went into his darkened room and rocked him in the glider until he fell back asleep. See, I have a squirmy child who does NOT enjoy being held anymore. As a sick baby, though, he will gladly rock with his mom. Since these moments are rare with Jackson, I held onto him as long as I could.

Like moms do, I held him so tight, thanking God for blessing our family so richly with this child. Though we are not at the beach this weekend and our family is not all under one roof tonight, there is so much love here. Days like today I wonder if it could ever get any better.

Oh no Amy! Sick babies are so rough. We all just want to wave a magic wand and make the hurt go away! I hope he’s feeling better soon!
Colson had a fever yesterday and now a nasty looking sore throat – so off to dr.s we go.
hope you still can get those pedi’s with Mandy – sounds fun!!
