Since I had to call my deployed husband to report my colossal fail, I might as well share this blunder with all of my readers. Thanks to Myra for hosting this fun, weekly “Friday Fail” event.
Let’s just say this fail started a couple months ago when I saw a deal for Southwest to fly for $39. I hadn’t visited my friends in Kentucky for nearly two years, so it seemed like a match made in heaven.
But we all know that the cost you end up paying is never the one you first see! Before I purchased the ticket, I realized Jackson might be more comfortable in his own seat. With our tickets, taxes, additional fees, early bird check-in, our air costs ballooned to $260.
Of course we couldn’t take Juno with us, so my dog’s kennel cost set me back about $140. Then I needed to drive to Raleigh (gas bill about $34) and pay $60 for parking at the airport.
Since I am 6 months pregnant–flying alone with a toddler–lugging bags through the airport just wasn’t going to happen, so I did the curb-side check-in and paid $12 in tips at the airports.
But when I landed, I picked up a rental car to get around town. Another $200! The gas for a few days ended up costing $32.
What began as a $39 idea ended up costing over $700 before I even stepped off the plane!
I had a blast and treasured every minute with my best friends. However, I should have thought through all the expenses to realize that it would have been infinitely cheaper to DRIVE!!
(And don’t get me started on my dog getting a staph infection from the kennel! YIKES!)
You can get a chuckle at other Friday Fails here.

Chatted with you on twitter, decided to check out your blog, LOVE IT!!!!
I am now subscribed and I am excited to read more. You are a fabulous writer!! Now I hear you on unrealized expences. My family went to Disney World in March, we had free tickets and the trip after hotel, food and gas was over a thousand dollars.
Oh dear! So glad you had a great time with your friends!!!
This is seriously the story whenever we travel. It drives me nuts. Glad you had fun
