Picking the perfect baby name

Over the past two weeks, my husband and I have been desperately trying to find the perfect name for our baby girl. Her due date isn’t until July, but want pick it soon so we can start calling her by name, not just “the baby”!

As it turns out, my husband and I don’t really agree on girl names. I won’t tell you his suggestions, but I will share some of my favorites:

Nina: MY #1 FAVORITE!!
Sophia*
Ava*
Mia
Caroline
Samantha
Ella
Ainsley (Yes, we love the show ‘The West Wing’!)
Alley
Camille
Clara
Stella
Millie
Lola
Cecilia
Celia
Heidi
Emma*

*Most likely to be excluded because they are ranked in the top ten name list published by the Social Security Administration (2008 edition).

After an extensive web search for baby names, I found a terrific website that was very helpful in compiling my list. It is Nameberry.com. They offer a wide variety of categories and lists like, “If you like the name Eva, you might like these,” “British names for girls,” and even “Celebrity baby names that begin with R.”

You might be wondering if we have a “short list” or “top three names,” but unfortunately we do not. We’ll get there! Friends, I’ll keep you posted once we have made our final decision. Hopefully this will not be in July! Ha!

How did you pick your baby’s name? Did you go with a family name or something trendy? Are there any names that you just “luuuuuv” right now?

I think my fave on your list would be Celia! :) I also like Ella and Emma, but I think they are both overused! lol Cicily is another favorite! (I love Mia, but we plan to use it for our next girl, so you can’t have it! hee hee We will spell it Mya though, so she can have a “y” in her name like everyone else in our family.) :)

Choosing a name can be tough, especially when Mom and Dad don’t always see eye to eye. Being a former teacher there were a ton of names that I could rule out but deciding on just the perfect one for our lil’ girl was difficult. Then one day it just came to me, I ran it past Hubs, and that was that. It was like it was meant to be.You’ll know when y’all have found the right one. I did buy a book from BN but with all the sites (like you’ve already found) I wouldn’t recommend wasting your money. Oh and love, love, love Ava.

My friend had a baby girl in Oct named Heidi :)

We have had our girls name forever. I had it before we met and then my husband loved it when I told it to him. Now we just need a girl to give it to :)

With our boys, the 1st is named after our Grandpa’s. The 2nd is named after my husband’s dad who has passed away and then his middle name is a name we liked.

When we thought our youngest son was going to be a girl we came up with some crazy names (Adara Sage) so not much help there! My oldest son is named after one of my favorite cities and my youngest has a hyphenated first name. The first part is the name where I lived in high school and the second part (with the middle name) is a combination of letters that came from 3 men in both of our families. I know…totally exhausting and confusing.
