My pregnancy fitness philosophy this time around is: train for the due date like it’s a marathon. Now you’re wondering, was Amy running 13 miles this morning before dawn?
NO!
But I am convinced that my last labor could have been easier if I had worked out a bit little harder. (When my doula asked me to do squats to speed up labor, it was the first time I had done them in months.)
Surprisingly, I have found my “fitness mojo” even in this cold winter season. Over the past couple months, I have been working out 4-5 days a week on average.
How have I kept my motivation up?
Simple. I follow two rules.
Number 1: Only do what really works.
Let me explain…I am currently paying for a gym membership and would really enjoy taking some of the group fitness classes. However, Jackson really despises the gym nursery and they end up coming to get me because he’s CRYING. The rushing around, driving 20 minutes to the gym, signing him in for childcare, being pulled out of classes, yeah, they’re not worth it. So I usually just work out at home during Jackson’s first nap of the day. For now, it works for me.
Number 2: Only do workouts that are fun.
I have a ton of fitness DVDs , so I just pick one that sounds like a lot of fun that day. The videos range from body sculpting, to cardio, to yoga, to zumba and even Rebounding! If I am not excited about the workout—I don’t do it, I’ll pick something else.
A month ago, I kept thinking about the group fitness classes I used to take when we lived in Tampa. I contacted the instructor and asked her to tape a couple classes for me. She did for a small fee and now those are my favorite DVDs because she was such a motivating instructor.
If you’re having trouble getting your body into motion this winter, don’t over-think it. Just do what works for you and have a blast doing it!
How are you guys keeping up a sweat this season?? Can’t wait to get more ideas!
**In case you’re wondering, I still love Crossfit, but our group is taking some time off during the winter.**

I lost my trainer due to moving 40 miles away and I NEVER thought about asking him to record a couple workouts for me. What a great idea, Amy!!
It is a serious motivation for me because I was in really good shape when I was in Tampa taking classes with her. Just seeing the old room and hearing her call out moves, makes me remember working out with her and so I work a little harder:)
For now my husband is my motivation, he runs with me on the treadmill and then does exercises with me but I’m thinking I need to find a back up quick because of how often he might not be able to go with me or might be gone for work. I’m thinking of taking a Zumba class but here it is only offered once a week with Cycling offered the rest of the week all day long… ugh so much for going to take classes. I need something that won’t upset my downstairs neighbor too! Oh Amy how I envy you with this
Jessi,
I LUUUUV working out with my hubby! He always gives me so much motivation. But I do love me some cycling and Rumba! Hope all is well with you! Are you using Twitter?
Amy
Well, I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I have started “The Biggest Loser” DVDs and I honestly love them! I alternate the Cardio Max and the Power Sculpt (both 6 week workouts) every other day and I think they are working!! =)
We just got a Crossfit in town. It looks wonderful! I really want to get myself in shape before Spring really hits. Last summer I had back problems and it really hindered what I could do with the boys. Hate that! Not letting that happen this year.
Oh Jenny! Crossfit is SO MUCH FUN!! I love it so much. Really, you shouldn’t get me started on this subject because you will be annoyed by how long I could chatter:) In my opinion, and many in the Army’s special operations community, it is one of the best ways to get in the best shape of your life. I hope the gym is awesome. Give it a try:)
