Monday marks the 14th week of my pregnancy, which means I have heard the precious heartbeat (!!!), no longer feeling nauseous, and gained a little weight. It’s funny, but don’t have the pregnant belly yet. I do, however, have a little bit of the “Krispy Kreme” belly. Simply put–the stranger on the street would just think I had eaten a few too many doughnuts. My shrinking wardrobe needed a boost, so I headed to Durham today to spruce up my closet.
When I shop, I ALWAYS check out the price tag first, then if the price is reasonable, I decide if I like it. This year, I’m trying to change that. Not that I’m bringing in more money, in fact, now that I’m a stay-at-home-mom, our income has dropped considerably. BUT…I’m trying to learn a little from my sister-in-law, Megan, and Rachel Zoe who both suggest investing in a few wardrobe pieces. Just having a nice pair of shoes, jeans or handbag will make everything else you wear look even better.
Today I was at A Pea in the Pod and lusted over their designer jeans. But $210 for jeans that I’ll only wear for a few months, well, that’s too much for me. When I mentioned this to the sales associate, she selected these jeans that were similar, but not as pricey. They were $68 and I’m going to show you how they compare to the $24 jeans I bought at Motherhood Maternity (which I bought when I was pregnant with Jackson).
Here are a couple shots of my new jeans:

It is hard to see this with the lame iPhone camera, but the Motherhood Maternity jeans (below) are soo frumpy.
It may be hard to tell from the pics, but the Pea in a Pod jeans were WELL worth the investment. I’m not suggesting that these jeans are designer ones, but spending a little more money can make you feel better about your look. They are just snug enough to remind of you of what non-maternity pants feel like! Too often maternity clothes = frumpy.
Oh, I almost forgot. We had our family pictures made before Thanksgiving, and after we got the prints I contacted the photographer to see if I could get an image for my site. To make it more professional and stuff:) I am not sure if I like it, though. Here is the pic that I have up:
And here’s the professional pic.
What do you think? Which one do you like better? Not sure if I should switch, so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

LOVE the new pic! You look great!
I love those jeans! And I love it when you can hear the heartbeat. How exciting
I think the new picture is great
Than;s so much Kate and Julie!
Julie–The jeans are awesome, but it is hard to capture in a camera phone at 11:00 pm! Ha!
Kate–Thank you! Not sure if I like it totally. Feels a little dorky, but maybe it would be better in black and white??
I like the first photo better for your blog. I feel like if I were new person reading – I would connect with the someone that looked like the person in the first picture. Makes you look more “normal,” more “approachable,” more “casual.” I think the cute new pic does make you look more “buisiness-like.” I guess it depends on which look you are going for. =)
I’m with you, Colleen! I want the other picture to work because I paid for it, but it doesn’t really capture “me”!
I think I like your old picture better for the reasons Colleen said.
Love the new jeans! I may have to check those out next time around:)
