This week, my friends set up a play date at Barnes and Noble and one friend responded that she didn’t want to be That Mom, but she didn’t want her 18 month old around all the germs in the kids area, especially the big train table. It actually hadn’t even occurred to me. Jackson has not really ever been sick, so it wasn’t even on my radar. I decided to go to the play date because I thought he had a super sturdy immune system.
We never actually got to there because Jackson was running a fever that morning. This naive mama let him stay at the gym nursery the day before. (Now I refer to this place as a germ hut!) In just 40 minutes, he picked up a nasty virus from another kiddo and has been running a high fever for the past 36 hours. This afternoon it even crept up to 103. Scary.
I took him to the doctor this morning and we are just trying to keep the little guy hydrated and attempting to keep the fever down. This is the funniest part–I only knew something was wrong because he wanted to be cuddly! Jackson is NO LONGER a cuddly baby:) Apparently it was just what he needed.
My friends and family have suggested baths, Pedialyte, Children’s Tylenol, and I wonder if you have any more tips? If so, feel free to comment. I am praying that tomorrow his temperature will break. You can bet I will think twice about such germy places and will probably be “that mom” for awhile.

I’m totally being “that mom” over the next few months! With H1N1 and everything, I’m totally paranoid… which is weird because I’m not a very germophobic (sp?) person. But I’m doing everything I can to keep us healthy this winter. AND we’re flying in 10 days, so I’m super nervous about that! I have those silly blue masks just in case! Ha!
I should have definitely been more careful!! I am not funny about germs either, but now I have dealt with a sick baby and don’t have any intention of doing it again soon!
Good luck with your trip! Sounds like you all will have a very nice holiday! Thanks so much for your comment.
