This week we are still with family in New England, determined to stay relaxed for just a few more days. Our Christmas holiday was truly blessed, full of joy, family and plenty of food! But one Christmas gift came in just a little late…AND I ABSOLUTELY CAN’T WAIT TO SHARE IT WITH YOU!!
Before I give you all “the dish,” let me just tell you how much I have been very interested in a certain product for some time. Several months ago, I had a little extra money saved up (before Jackson was born) and purchased a digital reader for my husband. He was ecstatic, and reminds me every time he travels that he doesn’t have to bring a ton of books. I can’t seem to leave town without a stack of books, especially when Jackson was younger and I wanted to have all of the baby books at my fingertips. Whenever he wanted a book, he went online and had it in 60 seconds. Whenever I wanted a book, I had to load up a well-fed baby into a car seat, then into his stroller and plough through the narrow aisles at our local bookseller.
Are you guessing what I am about to share?!! I am working with Borders Books to give away a fabulous Sony Touch Digital Reader! Best of all, I will be sending out a call to all military spouses, family members and friends of deployed soldiers to win a Sony Touch Digital Reader, with 10 books preloaded, for their soldier. (Oh yes, friends, just in time for Valentine’s Day!) We will send this stunning gift to a well-deserving service member who is currently deployed.
So tonight, we loaded up the family and made our way to Borders to check out the new Sony Touch Digital Reader at the kiosk at Borders.
After we had a little photo opp. Jackson and Dad had “guy time” so that mom could check out the Sony Touch, without interruption. Here is a shot of the home menu.
Here are my first impressions:
1. It is very light, thin and extremely portable. The screen was MUCH easier on the eyes than a laptop or traditional electronic device.
2. I really love the touch screen capabilities. If you are used to an iPhone, you will love the ability to use the touch controls.
3. It has a feature where you can handwrite notes and highlight with a stylus. I seem to retain and recall information that I physically write, rather than type, so I LOVE this feature.
4. Some digital readers have a scroll down feature to continue reading the page, so you feel as if you are always reading downward. The Sony Touch reads much like a traditional book, from left to right rather than up to down. Small difference, but it makes me feel like it’s more of an aunthenic reading experience.
5. It has a built-in Oxford English Dictionary. (The former English teacher in me just rejoiced! No lie!)
6. You can store 350 books on the Sony Touch. If you read one book a week, you could store almost 7 years of books with you and have them at all times.
7. One battery charge can last nearly two weeks! Friends, that’s a vacation or more for most of us. Not having to charge it frequently is a huge advantage for moms who have a lot on their plates.
8. I did notice that you have to push down a little bit harder on the screen than you do for an iPhone. It requires just a little bit more pressure, though not much, than I was used to applying.
Can you believe I get to send one of these awesome readers to a deployed soldier?! What a fantastic Valentine’s Day gift! So let’s get the word out to spouses, friends and family about this outstanding give-away! Stay tuned, because I will post the official beginning within the next few days. Bookmark this site, if you haven’t already, and be sure to come back in the New Year. (Hint! Hint!)
