Inducing Ideas

My sweet friend Colleen has been patiently waiting for her son Garrett to make his big debut into the world.  Many days after her due date, she is still waiting and praying for his arrival and is scheduled to be induced this week.

Moms, do you remember waiting for your first to arrive?  Not knowing what to expect, but wanting to hold your precious baby.  Jackson was born several days after his due date, so for a couple weeks, I woke up every morning hoping it would be his birthday.

Through her Facebook status, I have been recalling all those thoughts and feelings.  Watch the progression in just a few days.

Starts optimistically…

“We have high hopes for this weekend.”

Then…

“Just went on a 2 mile walk with Mom around the neighborhood – now it’s time for a shower and more walking around the outlets…I WILL walk this baby out!”

And…

“Seriously, what kind of person can excitedly await 12-15 hours of pain??!!”

Finally…

“If Garrett doesn’t get here by Saturday – he’s going to miss out on Gameday AND his monkey costume!”

Many friends have chimed in to offer tips on inducing labor, and of course, I threw in some of my own.  Here are some tips I picked up from our doula and the good ol’ interweb.

1.       Eating pineapple

2.       Getting a pregnancy message

3.        Used accupressure for pregnant women (I did this for a couple days and it worked very well.)

4.       Sitting on an exercise ball rather than the couch

I tried so many things that I am not sure which one made the difference or if it was the combination.  It would be great to hear from my readers today, what have you done to induce labor when your due date was in the rearview mirror?

If this doesn’t apply, have you heard interesting/novel ways that people have used?

I tried everything…EVERYTHING…and nothing worked with either of my girls. Because it was a miltary hospital I had to wait that awesome one week and 5 days before they would start me. It was hell. Pure hell. I actually contemplated getting a wire hanger and making some sort of water-breaking contraption out of it. Good luck to your friend!
