100 Day Challenge

My friend’s husband is in Iraq and decided to give himself a physical challenge.  His wife and her friends have decided to support him by doing it stateside.  The challenge is: 100 burpees in 100 days.

A burpee (YouTube demo below) is something that is pretty simple to do one or two, but definitely becomes more difficult as you do more.  But the thing is…everyone can do just one more.

If you haven’t done one before, the thought of doing 100 might scare you, because it is a great physical feat, but you can do it.  It is the magic of incremental improvement. Just like training for a marathon, if you slowly increase your physical output, you will shock yourself by what you can do.

November 1st is day one, so you will do 1 burpee on this day, then on day two, you will do 2 burpees…and so on, until we get to 100, which will be February 8.

As the numbers grow, you can break them up and do them throughout the day.  My friend Lindsay did 100 burpees as a Crossfit workout and completed it in less than 12 minutes, so you could do it all at once, too. (If you forget to do it one day, you can add your burpees to the next day.)

Here is a YouTube video with many examples of a burpee, including a modified one where you can do the push-up portion with your knees.  (At the end of the video, they start doing muscle-ups with the rings, but we’re NOT doing that!!)

This challenge is a unique way to stay motivated and is a great way to boost your metabolism (read: you getting hotter for the holiday season).   We will check in on this site to report progress and successes!  We hope you will join us!

Oh, come on!! It will be fun! After 6 or 7, I do the burpees using my knees. And we can break them up, a few in the morning, a few at night. Tempted?…

Gals, if you don’t have a support group, then get your husband or friends to offer a reward if you finish it! My husband (aforementioned) and I decided that whoever lasts the longest doesn’t have to do any of the driving from NC to PA over R&R in January. And if we both make it to R&R, then we’ll compete for time on the day before we leave to see who gets the prize. You get a free weekend away from the kids. Or just a movie and wine with the ladies. GOod luck!
