These are crossfitting celebrities (not me, yet!)
As you know, I am working hard to get my body back into pre-pregnancy shape. Okay, I’m lying. My goal is to get in better shape than the pre-baby me. As promised in my last posting about this, I’m giving you the skinny.
Jackson will be six months soon and I am 2.5 lbs. from my pre-baby weight. It is exciting to see more progress, but what has gotten me more excited, is how I am getting there these days: Crossfit.
If you’re unfamiliar with Crossfit, you should definitely check out their site. My friend (and neighbor) invited me to start doing Crossfit-style workouts at her house. Crossfit is different from traditional workouts in many ways, but I’ll just cover the basics. They are short, hard workouts that are designed to ‘smoke you’ and provide more functional fitness and strength.
Here’s a sample of our workout for tomorrow:
5 pull-ups, 10 sit-ups, 15 squats, for 20 minutes. The goal is to get in as many rounds as possible.
Most of what you need to know about Crossfit can be found in a simple Google search. But here’s why I’m sharing. If you were driving around post one morning and happen to drive down our street, this is what you might see outside: a woman throwing medicine ball up the side of the house (sorry military housing!) and catching the ball on her way down to a squat, one woman doing pull-ups on a bar. You might also see a woman doing weighted sit-ups with her son’s bouncy chair resting on her feet, smiling every time she came up, or a child in a pack-n-play, standing watching his mom take a quick drink of water before she returns to her workout. And we’re turning up the radio.
IT’S AWESOME.
Oh, I almost forgot! If you’ve ever visited or lived in the South in August, you know how stinkin’ humid it gets around here. Sweating (a lot) is just how we’re kicking off our day. If you played sports before, you know that working out with friends is a tremendous motivator. I have a cheering section if I’m struggling, there is always someone else keeping an extra set of eyes on Jackson, and it’s a great chance to chat with friends several days a week.
I’ve never had more fun working out. For the first time in a long time, I get excited on nights before our workouts. The workouts are different every day, so you really don’t get tired of doing the same thing. You don’t bulk up because you are often using your own body weight.
Did I mention you’ll feel like a badass? Cause you will.
Let me know if there are other workout groups doing something similar. If you have any more questions about this, feel free to email me amy {at} clickclackmom {dot} com.
